Des chaises et une table en formica, blanc passé et vert délavé. Un évier de pierre et le robinet en tuyau torsadé planté dans la chaudière. Le sol irrégulier, presque de la terre. Une odeur, une brise de cheminée et de fraîcheur mélangées. des portes de part et d’autre du carré de la pièce. Un buffet. Une télévision, juchée. Deux fenêtres n’éclairent que le devant de l’espace. Une porte à carreaux vitrés.
Et puis tout cela, cette banalité à couper au couteau, cette immobilité à ne plus savoir qu’en faire. Devient sublime. Le temps, la vie passée là, les pas de quelqu’un, ses gestes quotidiens, la place de la cruche, celle du torchon, les portes du dedans, fermées, le sombre qui teinte chaque chose de la matière de l’atome essentiel. Deviennent sublimes par la perfection de l’échange entre le corps et son dehors inoubliable, entre le dehors et l’intérieurement impérieux. Irrésistible conquête.
J’avais compris, sans le traduire. Embrassée par cette douceur d’absolu. Voilà pour l’architecture. Voilà pour le crayon et le papier. Redonner, donner à l’espace sa propension à se mouvoir autour de nous, avec nous.
